Spray Disinfection of Surfaces: Why you should spray disinfectant?

In addition to direct human-to-human transmission, contaminated surfaces also pose a risk of transmitting viruses and pathogens. Especially in the current COVID-19 pandemic, this is of great importance: Studies show that SARS-CoV-2 viruses can survive for several days on surfaces that we come into daily contact with.

The WAGNER Group is a global expert in surface coatings. Our mission: We bring colour, protection and function to surfaces.

This makes us the ideal partner when it comes to disinfecting surfaces. With our mobile spraying units, the most common disinfectants can be applied to surfaces quickly, easily and even over large areas. In this way we support people through our innovation and contribute to an eff ective reduction of the spread of viruses.

Where can spray disinfection be used?

Particular attention must be paid to areas in daily use, as well as to areas frequented by people who are or were already ill.

  • Locker Rooms, Bathrooms, (Sanitary facilities)
  • Office Spaces
  • Restaurants and food preparation areas
  • Education facilities
  • Public transport
  • Public amenities, entryways and public spacese

What can be disinfected?

  • Spraying technology allows a comprehensive surface coating with disinfectant – subsequently the microbial presence of bacteria, fungi or viruses can be reduced.
  • Disinfectants in liquid form, which are at least limited virucidal, are suitable for application to surfaces by spraying.
  • Disinfectant types: Based on alcohol, aldehydes, biguanides, bisphenols, diamidines, peroxygens, phenolics, quaternary ammonium salts and halogen-releasing compounds.
  • You can find further information on the page of the John Hopkins University.

How does spray disinfection of surfaces work?

Setup

  • Tighten the connections on the device fi rmly and check the seal of the device with water before using it with disinfectant.
  • Evacuate the water.
  • Fill disinfectant into the hopper or place suction system directly in the material container.
  • For FLEXiO units:
    • maximum air setting with low material setting
  • For airless devices:
    • Pressure setting: 70-100 bar (Control Pro Level 4)
    • Nozzle selection: (recommendation 513, 311 for Control Pro)
    • When using other nozzles, the application speed must be adjusted
  • Apply disinfectant quickly and evenly to the surfaces according to the material recommendations.
  • Please refer to the manufacturer‘s instructions for exposure times of the disinfectant you are using.

Safety Instructions

Please observe the following safety instructions before use:

    1. Always wear the necessary personal protective equipment („PPE“, see safety data sheet of the device: gloves, goggles and mask).
    2. Never point the fluid stream at people or animals - there is a risk of injury.
    3. Thoroughly read the operating instructions of the machine as well as the safety data sheet of the material and follow the instructions contained therein.
    4. Do not spray any electrical devices and equipment.
    5. When using fl ammable liquids, the machine must be operated outside the room where the spraying occurs (danger zone = 5 m distance from the application area).
    6. If flammable disinfectants are used, sufficient ventilation must be ensured. Furthermore, no warm or hot surfaces are to be disinfected. If possible, electrical systems should be switched off and light switch operations prevented. There is a risk of explosion!

    FAQs on disinfectant spraying

With WAGNER spray disinfection, large surfaces and hard to reach areas can be disinfected especially quickly and effectively.

We recommend our HVLP devices from the FLEXiO series W 590 and W 690. As well as our airless devices Control Pro 250 M and ProSpray 20.

You will find further information here.

This is possible if the unit has been thoroughly cleaned beforehand and the instructions on our checklist are followed. For hygienic reasons, however, we recommend spraying surface disinfectant only with new devices.

We only recommend the use of the devices predetermined by WAGNER. In particular, we provide a higher flow rate than other devices from the lacquer sector. This means that you are much more effective.

The recommended retail prices (RRP) can be found on our website.

The Robert Koch Institute provides a good overview of surface disinfectants. Here you get to the Website of the Robert-Koch-Institute. For further details please refer to our checklist.

Always wear personal protective equipment (especially respiratory mask) and follow the checklist. In addition, adhere to the instructions of material manufacturers (especially ventilation of rooms etc.). Even using wipe disinfection, personal protective equipment must be worn. Spray disinfection can also reduce contagions in the air.

No. Surface disinfectants should be purchased directly from the relevant suppliers.

It is therefore important that public facilities, institutions and contaminated sites receive the remaining agent.

Spray disinfection is a very good solution for all areas where wipe disinfection cannot be used. We see spray disinfection as a supplement to wipe disinfection. In some cases, a combination of the two methods is also helpful: Spreading the surface disinfectant using the spray process and then further treating the material using the wipe process. Suitable protective equipment must always be worn to protect against airborn particles. (respiratory protection, safety goggles, protective clothing).

The droplets produced by a pump sprayer or a classic spray bottle are much larger and more heterogeneous compared to HVLP and Airless technologies. Therefore there may be larger gaps between the individual drops on the surface. With HVLP and Airless, very homogeneous droplets and multiple covering layers can be effectively achieved. In addition surfaces can be coated much faster with the WAGNER technology.

Yes. For this reason follow the instructions in the material data sheet.

Steam cleaners are not suitable for disinfecting surfaces. Furthermore, surface disinfectants cannot be sprayed with them as a rule.

Here, the actual application area is very important. The relevant procedural instructions provide appropriate information. WAGNER spray disinfection is mainly applicable in areas of public life (i.e. also in areas where previously infected persons have stayed. E.g. sanitary facilities and changing areas, workplaces and offices, gastronomy, educational institutions, public transport, public buildings, squares and paths).

Yes, with longer contact (e.g. liquid remains in the pump) the material reacts. Therefore, the sprayer must be thoroughly cleaned after each use (eg. rinsing with water). Please see our checklist.

The customs tariff number (HS code) is: 84242000.

No, it is not dual-use goods.

No, our sprayers do not fall within the scope of the Medical Devices Act, the Biocide Regulation or the CLP Regulation.

No, only surface disinfectants can be sprayed. Please always read and observe the operating instructions, the data sheets of the material manufacturers and the WAGNER checklist.
