How to Paint a wooden fence: step by step

That's what you need:

  • Cleaning cloth
  • Masking material
  • Painter's tape
  • Varnish or glaze in the desired colour
  • some water for thinning
  • Cardboard for the spray test

Step 1: Sanding the garden fence

Step 1: Sanding the garden fence

First sand the garden fence with a sander to remove any previous varnish or paint. Slightly roughen the surface so the paint adheres properly. It is best to use a sander for this.

Step 2: Remove paint and dust from the fence

Step 2: Remove paint and dust from the fence

After sanding, clean the fence with a cloth to remove dust and paint residue. This will give you better results when you are painting later.

A little tip:

Machines from the BOSCH Power for All Alliance use the same battery as the WAGNER W 600 FLEXiO 18V sprayer. So, for example, you can use the sander - just like many other tools around the house and garden - with your existing battery

Step 3: Cover up

Step 3: Cover up

Cover the ground around your wooden fence. It is best to use painters dust sheets, plastic or an old sheet to prevent paint going onto the lawn. It is best to remove fittings from the garden gate before spraying or mask them using a professional masking tape.

Step 4: Prepare the sprayer

Schritt 4: Sprühsystem vorbereiten

Prepare your WAGNER W 600 FLEXiO 18 V sprayer for painting. To do this, fill the paint, varnish or stain into your spray attachment container and dilute by up to 10% if required. Then click the spray attachment with the fence symbol onto your sprayer and carry out a small spray test on cardboard before you start actually painting the fence.

Why spraying is better!

With a paint sprayer, it’s incredibly easy to apply the material evenly and to cover the entire surface. The end result is a smooth and even layer of paint. When using a brush, brush marks tend to be visible.
