Step by Step Can Upcycling Instructions

Here is how to make summer vases and flower pots from old tin cans.

  • Bottle
  • Newspaper
  • Tin Cans
  • Paint of your choice
  • Gloves
  • Mask for spraying
  • Decoration of your choice, e.g. wooden letters, pieces of cord, stickers

If you are using old cans, first remove the label. With warm soapy water you should be able to completely remove all the adhesive residue.

Step by step: Spraying cans with the paint spray system

Step 1 of 3: Prepare material and work surface

Step 1: Prepare material and work surface

To protect your garden and work area, we recommend covering areas such as the work table. For this, you can use dust sheets, an old cardboard box or newspaper. A tip from us: Place an extra cardboard box at the head of your worksurface. This creates a spray shield to capture any overspray.

Now you can add the desired paint to the paint container of the paint sprayer and stir it thoroughly with the supplied stirring stick. The paint may still need to be diluted. The best way to find out is to carry out a test spray on to a piece of cardboard. So that not only the garden, but also you are protected, we recommend wearing a respirator mask and gloves as well as goggles during spraying.

Step 2 of 3: Spraying tin cans

Step 2: Spraying tin cans

Now the most exciting part begins - spraying! Be sure to apply the paint at a steady pace and spray it at a consistent distance of about 20 cm. If you are too close to the can, paint drips can occur.

Tip: To get a perfect layer of paint without fingerprints, just take a bottle, wrap newspaper around it and put it in the can.

Let the freshly painted tin cans dry properly!
