Winter Stencil Technique

Creative workshop with Ellen Mc Hale

Artist and designer Ellen Mc Hale had the innovative idea to decorate standard wrapping paper and decorative items with stencils and a sprayer and to create individual gifts and the packing to match in the process. Armed with red tone paper, stencils and her paint-filled sprayer, she shows us how easy it is to make homemade wrapping paper and a tray. Ellen suggests putting aside half a day for making your wrapping paper and inviting friends over – this makes it a whole lot more fun. Experiment with colours, patterns and designs to wrap up books or magazines with.

Stencil technique for wrapping paper

Step 1 of 4: Stick on stencil

Make sure you work on a flat surface and stick your stencils in place with some adhesive tape.

Step 2 of 4: Spray wrapping paper

Spray with a little paint and slow, even movements from left to right.

Step 3 of 4: Allow paint to dry

Allow to dry and remove the template.

Step 4 of 4: Gift Wrap

Wrap your treasures and then ornament them with ribbons or branches.

Stencil technique for a tray

Step 1 of 3: Spray stencils

Spray with your favourite colour slowly and in even movements from left to right. The tray should now have a new shine.

Step 2 of 3: Allow paint to dry

Allow to dry and remove the template.

Step 3 of 3: Decorate tray or give as a gift

Decorated like this, the tray becomes a Christmas decoration element or a gift for good friends.
