Setting up a dart room: Experiences with the WAGNER W 590 FLEXiO

Julian Pawlowski is a photographer and ensures that we always have beautiful ambience pictures at WAGNER. This time, however, it's about him, because he would like to set up a dart room in his flat where he can play exciting games with good company. But the room is still a little dreary. With the WAGNER paint sprayer W 590 FLEXiO, a few accessories and creativity, this can easily be changed! But let's let Julian, our World Darts Championship fan, tell us about the set-up of his dart room.

From barren walls to a stylish dart room: The WAGNER W 590 FLEXiO put to the test

My project was to transform a spare room in my flat into a stylish dart room with everything: Dartboard, darts line (called 'oche' among dart players) and a matching wall design with a touch of flair. I have always enjoyed playing darts with my friends. This is a great way for me to spend a nice evening in the comfort of my own home, with never a dull moment to boot!

A dartboard had been hanging on the wall at the proper height in this room for some time. However, the necessary atmosphere and also some darts accessories were still missing. The dartboard should also be staged a little more. I wanted to realise this with the help of a colourful wall design: A blue stripe of about 2-3 square metres should be the highlight on the wall. And a massive dartboard was also missing to ensure an even distance from the throw line to the target and to protect the floor from bouncing darts ("bouncers"). Many amateur players just stick a carpet on the floor for this purpose. But for my dart room I wanted to build a massive dart oche like the ones used by the pros - like at the last World Darts Championship.

Wall design and dart line: Setting up a dart room step by step

For the strip on the wall, I first drew guide lines with a pencil and folding rule. I masked off the area not to be sprayed with paint with masking tape. Then I filled the blue wall paint into the container of the W 590 FLEXiO. I then sprayed the area between the masking tape strips at a uniform distance

After the paint had dried, it was time to hang up the dartboard. Around the dartboard I attached a catch ring to catch the darts that miss the board.

The next step was the construction of the dart oche. For the wooden construction, I first used the cordless screwdriver to attach some parallel wooden beams and offset cross struts to some chipboard to make it stable. I had the cross struts and the board cut to the desired dimensions at the DIY store.

Then I stapled a layer of felt to the wooden construction. I made sure that the felt was snug against the board and did not wrinkle. I coordinated the colour with the blue of the stripe on the wall. I used neon tubes for bright lighting in the dartboard area.

The WAGNER W 590 FLEXiO paint sprayer Time-saving and easy to handle

When designing the wall, I decided to use spraying as a way of working. I have had positive experiences using paint sprayers in previous projects In this project, I was very impressed by how convenient and time saving it was working with this device. I was particularly impressed with how easy it was to use the W 590 FLEXiO. I was sceptical at first whether I would succeed in spraying the geometric shape on the first try, but the spray jet can be adjusted very precisely and the results were great.

My dart room now looks exactly as I had thought it would when I was planning it in my head. The blue stripe on the wall around the dartboard and the bold red of the catch ring create a great contrast. This is also useful when playing, as the board stands out nicely against the wall and the focus is precisely on the target. The new massive oche takes the game of darts to a new level - the dartboard is stable, looks just awesome and our dart games have become even more professional as a result!

Why spraying is better!

With a paint sprayer, it’s incredibly easy to apply the material evenly and to cover the entire surface. The end result is a smooth and even layer of paint. When using a brush, brush marks tend to be visible.
