When painting a banister, what you need to bear in mind depends greatly on whether it is a restoration or a new banister. During a restoration, you should first remove all of the old paint, as you would when painting with a brush. After sanding, mask off all of the surrounding areas thoroughly, especially if the staircase is in a house where people are living. After masking, you can start applying the paint directly. To do this, spray the paint from a consistent distance onto the banister in order to achieve a covering layer of paint. When painting with the FC 3500, you can also remove the masking tape while the paint is still wet.
With new banisters made from wood or metal, it may also be necessary to use a primer before the actual painting process in order to guarantee the best hold and coverage of the paints used.
