Markdorf / Representatives of the Bodenseekreis TAFEL charities beam when they learn of the result of WAGNER’s Christmas fund-raising event. The company and its employees at the Markdorf site jointly raised more than 57,000 euros, which WAGNER donated to the TAFEL charities in the Bodenseekreis/Lake Constance region and the three TAFEL Germany e.V. projects. From a total of around 500 employees at J. Wagner GmbH in Markdorf, this is a result that is a clear demonstration of WAGNER’s solidarity with those in need in the region.

The TAFEL is an organization with one simple mission: Salvage groceries and help people who have fallen on hard times. To do this, the local TAFELs collect surplus foodstuffs that can no longer be sold and pass them on to people in need who would otherwise be unable to afford a balanced diet. In the wake of the corona crisis, the ongoing war in Ukraine that brought many refugees fleeing to the region, and rising inflation, the need for support is rising while at the same time fewer and fewer donations are reaching the TAFELs.

Even in the affluent Lake Constance region, the TAFELs have been sounding the alarm for months and telling of an acute emergency. “That’s what prompted our fund-raising event this year, because we all agreed that we wanted to provide assistance again in the region”, says HR Specialist Dennis Brandmaier, who was in charge of the fund-raising event at WAGNER. Jaqueline Schiele, Personnel Manager at WAGNER, proudly adds: “This is now the second time we have run this Christmas fundraiser. Together, the whole team at J. Wagner GmbH has once again done something amazing!” And Veronika Daue, who job shares the Personnel Manager role with her colleague, is delighted to say: “With the funds raised and the contribution from the company, we can help the TAFELs inside and outside the region and as a consequence provide direct help to a lot of people! It means a great deal to us to support our region and charitable aims.”

This is also entirely in the spirit of the owners of WAGNER, the Josef Wagner charitable foundation in Friedrichshafen, which on the occasion of its 50th anniversary had already that summer donated 50,000 euros to the regional TAFELs and is currently financially supporting the Markdorfer Wintertaler (shopping vouchers for the over 65s).

During the WAGNER fund-raising event, employees could drop cash into the on-site charity tins, donate residual leave and flextime, or transfer money to the TAFEL Germany aid projects. Once again, the Board made it clear from the outset that the company would match the amount raised by the employees. In this way, the impressive sum of 55,000 euros was raised for the TAFELs in the Lake Constance area. From this, the TAFELs in Friedrichshafen, Markdorf, Meersburg, Tettnang and Überlingen each receive a check for 11,000 euros!

In addition, three other projects of the Tafel Germany e.V. are receiving a total of more than 2,600 euros. A third each goes on:

  • Together for the Tafels: Solidarity knows no lockdown!
  • Tafels in crisis: How together you can help the Tafels
  • Helping Tafels through the energy crisis

Together the employees and management at J. Wagner GmbH have given it their all! And anyone feeling inspired by this Markdorf-based company’s fund-raising events and those of the J. Wagner charitable foundation and now wanting to make a contribution of their own can do so on site at the TAFELs in the Lake Constance area or by engaging financially with other TAFEL projects via the betterplace.org platform (keyword: Tafel).
